The Ellern wind farm is a wind farm located in the municipality of Ellern in the Hunsrück, Rhineland-Palatinate. It is located on the hill of the Soonwaldkamm . The planned annual energy yield of the wind farm is 120 million kilowatt hours of electrical energy.
history
On March 2, 2012, the clearing for the 8 wind turbines began , whereby the Simmern district administration had previously granted an urgent application for the clearing of the forest areas by the juwi company . This had become necessary because the final approval for the plants was not yet available. The district administration reinforced this decision by arguing that the approval process for the wind turbines would be decided in favor of juwis and the advantage of clearing early, especially not to disturb the wildcat living in the Soonwald when rearing their young.
On August 28, 2012, the 150-tonne nacelle was successfully placed on the 135-meter-high tower of one of the five Enercon E-126 wind turbines . The first completed system went online in mid-October. At the beginning of December the five Enercon E-126s were ready for operation. The construction of the other facilities began.
Like the neighboring Seibersbach and Dörrebach wind farms, the Ellern wind farm is operated by Verbund AG .
technology
The E-126 wind turbines installed in the Ellern wind farm each have a nominal output of 7,580 kW, a hub height of 135 meters and are each 198.5 meters high. This system is the most powerful wind turbine type in the world as of 2013. In addition, three E-101 systems from the same manufacturer are under construction, each with a nominal output of 3 MW.
transport
The precast concrete parts of the towers are shipped from the Enercon plant in Magdeburg to Trier . From Trier, the parts are transported by truck on federal road 50 through Argenthal to the construction sites in the forest. The two-part rotor blades, the nacelles and the generators are delivered directly by the plant manufacturer Enercon.
Criticism of the choice of location
Criticism of the choice of location has come from the Soonwald eV , NABU , BUND and Gegenwind Soonwald eV citizens' initiative . Above all, in their opinion, they criticize the lack of nature conservation measures. They see the 14 bat species that live in the Soonwald in particular at risk from the high-frequency turbulence from the wind turbines. The endangered wildcat , which also lives in the Soonwald, is also endangered. In addition, the associations criticize the early start of clearing without a permit for the plants.
Juwi denies the allegations. The wind farm combines the energy transition and nature conservation , according to juwi on the official website of the wind farm. Juwi would also replace the cleared areas of the spruce monoculture elsewhere with mixed forest and thus create new habitat for the bat.
