Thomas Timothy "Tim" Holden (born March 5, 1957 in St. Clair , Schuylkill County , Pennsylvania ) is an American politician . From 1993 to 2013 he represented the 6th constituency of the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Tim Holden attended the “St. Clair Area High School "and then the" Fork Union Military Academy "and the University of Richmond in Virginia . In 1980 he finished his studies at Bloomsburg State University in Pennsylvania. He then worked as a probation officer in Schuylkill County. He also held the office of "Sergeant-at-Arms" in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives . From 1985 to 1993 he was a sheriff in Schuylkill County. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party .

In the 1992 congressional election , Holden was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Gus Yatron on January 3, 1993 . After nine re-elections, he exercised his mandate in Congress until January 3, 2013, after losing to Matt Cartwright in the 2012 primaries . Cartwright had challenged Holden in the 17th constituency, which Holden had represented since 2003, after the regular redesign of the constituencies. He was considered a rather conservative Democrat and was part of the Blue Dog Coalition . In 2002 he voted for the Iraq war . He was a member of the Agriculture Committee and the Transport Committee and a total of four sub-committees. He was also a member of the German-American Caucus and the Congressional Arts Caucus .
