Schönborn is a municipality in the Hunsrück in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Simmern-Rheinböllen community .

geography

Schönborn is centrally located in the Hunsrück between the Kauer and Simmerbachtal valleys . In the east lies the town of Simmern , in the west lies the Kauerbachtal . The Sonnenhof and Stückerhof residential areas also belong to Schönborn .

history

Archaeological finds are known from the late Latène period . The first documentary mention of it comes from the year 1290. The place was part of Pfalz-Simmern and from 1673 the Electoral Palatinate . With the occupation of the Left Bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops , the place became French, in 1815 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . After the First World War temporarily occupied by the French again, the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946.
