About this picture

Niederkumbd (until December 6, 1935 Niederchumbd ) is a municipality in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Simmern-Rheinböllen community .

geography

Niederkumbd is an agricultural place in the Hunsrück . The district has an area of 2.27 km².

history

Niederkumbd was first mentioned in a document in 1310. At that time the place was still called Hasencomede and was closely connected with the monastery in today's Klosterkumbd . In the Middle Ages there was a local noble family of the same name. Disputes between the county of Sponheim and the Count Palatinate led to a feud over the place in 1368 . Thereafter, the Count of Sponheim had to recognize the Palatine sovereignty in the place. Since 1410 the place belonged to the Duchy of Simmern , which introduced the Reformation in 1556 . Later the Count Palatine was again sovereign at the Rhine. With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops , the place became French, in 1815 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . After the First World War temporarily occupied by the French again , the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946.

  • Historic watermill from 1847: After the municipality had bought the now dilapidated building in 1952 and planned restorations failed to materialize, the Südwestrundfunk broadcast Mach initiated the renovation of the mill and the site by the citizens of the municipality. The mill wheel was then replaced and the water supply restored. A mill festival is celebrated every year in September at the now operational mill.
