Unzenberg is a municipality in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Kirchberg (Hunsrück) community .

Unzenberg is located in the Hunsrück in the Kauerbachtal .

The community consists of the districts Unzenberg, Göbenhausen and Tombach.

The place arose from the settlements of Göbenhausen (7 courtyards), Tombach (3 courtyards) and Unzenberg (9 courtyards). The first mention can be found in the slope register of Count Simon II of Sponheim in 1310.

With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops , the place became French, in 1815 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . At the beginning of the 20th century, the station outside of the village was built.

After the First World War temporarily occupied by the French, the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946.

coat of arms

Unzenberg coat of arms
Blazon : “Shield with a curved, lowered black tip, inside a silver bell, split; on the right a black intertwined blindfold in gold, on the left a silver mill wheel in green over a slanted silver wavy bar. "
Reasons for the coat of arms: The three-part division in the coat of arms symbolizes the three old settlements of Göbenhausen, Tombach and Unzenberg. The blindfold is a symbol of the place of justice at the height of Itzelbach near Biebern , the mill wheel and the stream on the right are reminiscent of the six mills and the stream in the Kauerbachtal. The lower part shows the village bell hanging on a wooden bell tower in the middle of the village.

The Unzenberg wind farm is located on a hill to the east of the municipality and currently has five wind turbines from Vestas and two from REpower Systems . The electricity is fed into the high-voltage network via a substation in Kirchberg , which was built for the Kirchberg and Neuerkirch wind farms . The wind farm was planned and built by the project developer juwi , the commissioning will take place at the beginning of 2012, at the same time Thüga Erneuerbare Energien GmbH & Co. KG acquired the wind farm, the operational management remains with Juwi.

The route of the Hunsrückquerbahn between Langenlonsheim and Hermeskeil, which is currently closed due to defects in the superstructure, runs south of the village .
