Muttersche is a municipality in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Simmern-Rheinböllen community .

Muttersche is centrally located in the Hunsrück between Argenthal and Simmern / Hunsrück on the edge of the Simmerner Mulde . With its share in the formerly royal Soonwald , Mutt Various has belonged to the northern Soonwald villages since 1311 at the latest. The forest area, territorially separated from the main marking, extends near the Simmerkopf .

The living spaces Bornhof, Heidehof, Schönhof and Haus Tanneck also belong to Muttigart.

history

The location in the corner of two Roman roads seems to be a coin find from the time of Emperor Hadrian , a Roman road post on the stone road to Bacharach and ancient settlement traces in the village center and south of it, as well as two finds of fragments of hand millstones from millstone basalt 700 m west and 500 m east of the village to confirm.

The name Muderscheid or Mudinscheid goes back to the Alemannic personal name Mouthar . The village probably belonged to the provost area of the Augustinian Canons Ravengiersburg .

From 1275 at the latest, the place belonged to the Wittelsbach Count Palatine near Rhine and later the Dukes of Palatinate-Simmern . A first documentary mention is available for 1311 (part of the Märkerwald in the Soon). The Reformation was introduced in 1557 . At first the place was Lutheran , then Reformed . With the end of the line from Pfalz-Simmern in 1674, the place came back to the Electoral Palatinate and in 1686 the Catholic religion was re-admitted .

With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops , the place became French, in 1815 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . In the 19th century there was still a Yenish hut settlement between Muttigart and Altweidelbach , the cemetery of which can still be verified. Years of hunger caused more than 50 people to emigrate to Brazil from 1843 to 1854 .

Since 1946 the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
