Biebern is a municipality in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Simmern-Rheinböllen community .
geography
Biebern is centrally located in the Biebertal in the Hunsrück between the federal highway 50 and the Hunsrückhöhenstraße .
history
The place is mentioned as early as 754 as Biberahu in pago Nafinsi in a deed of donation to the Fulda monastery . In the 11th century the place came into the possession of the Ravengiersburg monastery , which was abolished by Duke Georg von Simmern in 1566. Until 1673 Biebern belonged to the Palatinate partial duchy of Palatinate-Simmern , from 1673 to the Electoral Palatinate . The Simultaneum was introduced in Biebern in 1689, and around 1770 both denominations had a church on site. With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops , the place became French, in 1815 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . In 1939 the previous mayor's office in Ohlweiler was dissolved, and Biebern became part of the mayor's office in Simmern. Since 1946 the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

coat of arms
Blazon : “Split by silver and blue; in front a continuous black cross, behind a silver scale, above two churches. " | |
Justification of the coat of arms: The black cross in silver points to the former imperial Benedictine abbey of Fulda, to which the noble Eggiolt bequeathed his share of the forest in Biebern in 754. The two churches are reminiscent of the two churches in the village, the scales of the Bieberner "Gedinge" held by the Augustinian Canons of Ravengiersburg. |
