About this picture

Dörth is a municipality in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in the German state Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Hunsrück-Mittelrhein community .

history

Until the end of the 18th century, Dörth belonged to the Gallscheider court and thus to Kurtrier . With the occupation of the Left Bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops , the place became French, in 1815 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1946 the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

In the Gallscheid forest north of Dörth, excavations were carried out in 1851 on the three large burial mounds visible there, in which, according to legend, a golden chariot should be located. The excavations in a 4.5 meter high and 27 meter diameter hill took place without scientific supervision. The grave equipment was plentiful and dated to the Celtic period ( Latène A , 480 to 370 BC). It was the grave of a man who had been buried in a two-wheeled cart, the iron and bronze fittings of which made up the bulk of the finds. Smooth arm and finger rings are also typical of this period. In addition, rich drinking and eating utensils set the find, which is known as the Prince's grave of Dörth, apart from others. The finds came to the Altes Museum Berlin , but not all of them: in 1978, when the holdings in the Rheinisches Landesmuseum Bonn were revised , finds were identified that were probably subsequently collected on the burial mound and came into the possession of the Society of Friends of Antiquity in the Rhineland .

coat of arms

Coat of arms of Dörth
Blazon : “Shield split by a propped point, inside a growing golden cross covered with a blue sword; in front a red bar cross in silver; behind a silver bar in red. "
Justification of the coat of arms: The red cross is the coat of arms of Kurtrier . With it the former territorial affiliation is indicated. The silver bar on a red background is the coat of arms of the Gallscheid court and indicates that it belongs to the court. The symbols in the middle, the golden cross and the blue sword, stand for the apostles Phillippus and James the Elder , who are the patrons of the place.

Economy and Infrastructure

Dörth is located between the A 61 (exit Emmelshausen) and the Hunsrückhöhenstraße . About one kilometer outside of the village is the Dörth industrial area with around 80 companies and around 1,000 jobs.

From 2012 onwards, Schottel GmbH built its new production plant on most of the industrial area on an eight- hectare property with four adjacent, up to 270 meters long and up to 18 meters high production halls for ship propulsion systems and an administration building for around 290 employees.
