Kratzenburg is a municipality in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Hunsrück-Mittelrhein community .
history
Kratzenburg is one of the oldest communities in the Vorderhunsrück. It is mentioned for the first time as Cratzenberh in a document from Emperor Otto II dated to 975 , which may be regarded as a forgery from the Middle Ages. The place occurs in connection with the parish church of St. Peter zu Boppard: "The village of Cratzenberh in the Gau Trier, in the county of Siccos gives three royal hooves in the parish church document." associated farmland. A king's hoof was four times that of a normal hoof.
The first definitely datable document, in which Kratzenburg is mentioned, comes from the year 1245. After that the place belonged to the Gallscheid court . Kratzenburg and the entire judicial district came to Kurtrier in the 14th century .
With the occupation of the Left Bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops , the place became French, in 1815 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1946 the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate .
Origin of name
The namesake could have been a wooden, Roman watchtower, also called "Katz". This tower is said to have been on the parcel "Auf der Katz". Crates comes from Latin and means "woven from wood". In the course of the two Germanic phonetic shifts it changed to “tz” and the interweaving of “en” resulted in the connection of the Germanized ending “berg” (berh).
Incidentally, the ending “berg” (berc) clearly indicates a settlement, just like the name endings “hausen” or “bach”.
