Oppertshausen is a municipality in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Simmern-Rheinböllen community .

geography

The residential community with a rural character is centrally located in the Hunsrück on a slight slope on the Simmerbachtal. In the east lies the town of Simmern , in the west lies the Kauerbachtal .

history

Archaeological finds prove the settlement in the younger Stone Age or during the Hunsrück-Eifel culture . The first documentary mention of it comes from the year 1285. The place belonged to the so-called foreign citizenship of the office Kirchberg in the rear county of Sponheim .

After the occupation of the Left Bank of the Rhine (1794) by French revolutionary troops , the place became French, in 1815 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . After the First World War temporarily occupied by the French, the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 .

The municipal council in Oppertshausen consists of six council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.
