Benzweiler is a municipality in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Simmern-Rheinböllen community .
geography
Benzweiler is located northwest of Rheinböllen on the Hunsrück . The Antoniushof and Hubertushof residential areas also belong to the community .
history
Six barrows northeast of the village suggest a Celtic settlement. With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops , the place became French, in 1815 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1946 the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

Foundation of the coat of arms: The community of Benzweiler has had the rooster as a local symbol since the 17th century. The golden Glevenrad refers to the previous owners and landlords of the village, the lords of Schönburg on Wesel . In the 15th century, they sold their property to the Count Palatine near Rhine, who incorporated the town into the Duchy of Simmern . Belonging to the Palatinate is represented by the colors black and gold. |
