About this picture

Braunshorn is a municipality in the low mountain range of the Hunsrück in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Kastellaun .

Community structure

The Braunshorn district is the namesake of the Braunshorn community. The municipality includes the districts of Braunshorn with 239 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2010), Dudenroth and Ebschied .

history

The districts of Braunshorn and Dudenroth belonged to the rulership of the Barons von Braunshorn in the Middle Ages . In both places there are remains of medieval castles, so-called moths . Probably the moth in Braunshorn is the ancestral seat of the noble family, which is mentioned for the first time in 1098. In 1268 the family moved their headquarters to Beilstein . In 1273 Braunshorn Castle was sold to the Count Palatine . After the Braunshorns died out, the property with the two places fell to the Lords of Winneburg , and in 1652 to Metternich.

With the annexation of the left bank of the Rhine (1794) by French revolutionary troops , the place became French . From 1798 to 1814 Braunshorn belonged to the canton of Kastellaun in the Rhine-Moselle department and from 1800 to Mairie Gödenroth . Due to the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna (1815), the region was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia . Under the Prussian administration, Braunshorn came together with Dudenroth in 1816 to the mayor's office in Pfalzfeld in the district of Sankt Goar and to the administrative district of Koblenz in the province of the Grand Duchy of Lower Rhine (from 1822 Rhine province ). After the First World War temporarily occupied by the French , the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 . The local community of Braunshorn has belonged to the Kastellaun community since 1970 .

Today's community was created on March 17, 1974 through a merger in the form of a new formation of the previously independent communities Braunshorn (then 205 inhabitants), Dudenroth (101) and Ebschied (177).
