history

The oldest traces of settlement are found around 1.1 km north of Liebshausen in the Schimburg corridor. A settlement ruin, which was described by the population as an old monastery , was "deciphered" and measured as a Roman settlement by the archeology association ARRATA eV in 2004.

Liebshausen was first mentioned in 1006 as "Liobeshuson" at the inauguration of the church in Mörschbach. After the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine by French revolutionary troops (1794), the place became French and from 1798 to 1814 belonged to the canton of Bacharach in the Rhine-Moselle department . In 1815 the region was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1946 the place has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

Liebshausen (then Lipshausen ) was a popular refuge for robbers and horse thieves towards the end of the 18th century . The robber Philipp Ludwig Ernst Mosebach ("Jäger-Philipp"), the failed son of a pastor and leader of the "Hunsrück gang", stayed there. Mosebach was executed in Koblenz. The robber Schinderhannes also came to Liebshausen at the beginning of his criminal career, where he was injured by a shotgun shot in a pub fight in mid-1797.
