Hecken is a municipality in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Kirchberg (Hunsrück) community .

geography

Hecken is located in the middle of the low mountain range of the Hunsrück around three kilometers south of the town of Kirchberg , on the edge of the Kyrbach valley . The name is derived from the " Hag ", which denotes an enclosed field or forest. The district measures 3.89 km² at around 390 to 420 m above sea level. NN . About half of the district is forested.

history

The first written record dates from 1291. Count Johann von Sponheim allowed his Kastellaun Burgmann Herrmann of Kestilun, to his wife Sophia on the farm, which belonged to the counts of Sponheim in hedges bewittumen .

Starting with Heinrich von Hecken, who belonged to the Kirchberg jury , a knight family named themselves after the place.

With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops , the place became French, in 1815 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1946 the place has been part of the then newly founded state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

Attractions

A half-timbered house called Haus Ursula dates from 1878 . The former school was completely renovated in 1978. The house was used as a meeting place by a religious order for several years and is now privately owned. The building's former school bell is located in a separate bell tower and is rung in the evening and on special occasions such as deaths or church services. This was done manually until the end of 2012, and an electric motor has been doing the work ever since.
