history

The place belonged to the rear county of Sponheim until the end of the 18th century . The Boos von Waldeck and the Counts von Katzenelnbogen had income from the place. With the occupation of the Left Bank of the Rhine (1794) by French revolutionary troops , the place became French, in 1815 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1946 the place has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate .

The former town hall of Gödenroth was rebuilt in 1974 as the first building in the folklore and open-air museum Roscheider Hof . It is exemplary for the town halls in the Protestant communities of the Hunsrück. Roman-Catholic parishes were subordinate to the Archdiocese of Trier and no parish self-administration was tolerated by this . The ground floor was temporarily used as a poor house for the community. The coach house next door was initially used as a stable for small animals and later to accommodate fire extinguishers .
