coat of arms
Blazon : "Split by a twisted silver tip, topped with a blue, red armored and -tongued lion, right in red a gold bell, left in green a golden plow." | |
Justification of the coat of arms: The lion refers to the Counts of Veldenz, who already owned hereditary estates in the village in 1257, which passed to the Counts of Sponheim in the 15th century. The bell refers to a popular legend, according to which monks of the monastery of Blacks sunk the bells in the well during the Thirty Years' War to protect them from the attack of the war people. The plow is reminiscent of agriculture, which for centuries was the dominant industry for black people. |
