Location of the local community Riegenroth in the Rhein-Hunsrück district
Riegenroth is a state-approved resort in the low mountain range of the Hunsrück in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in Rhineland-Palatinate . The local community belongs to the Simmern-Rheinböllen association.
geography
The rural residential community Riegenroth is located in the Hunsrück above the Grundbach just before it flows into the Simmerbach near Kisselbach. It is connected to the neighboring towns of Bubach , Laudert , Kisselbach and Budenbach via local roads.
The residential areas Birkenhof, Breitenbachsmühle and Klumpenmühle also belong to Riegenroth . The following mills around Riegenroth are recorded on the Kisselbach measurement table from 1907: Hetzels Mühle, Augustins Mühle, Breitenbach's Mühle, Weirichs Mühle and Sehnen Mühle. The Hetzels Mühle is probably today's lump mill (more correctly: lump mill, miller's mill Klump).
history
The place is called Riescherd in the Riegenroth dialect belonging to the Moselle Franconian dialect . The name suggests that Riegenroth was a medieval clearing settlement of the Rudich . The place is mentioned as Rudichenrode in a document in which the knight of Milwalt was awarded the tithe in 1275 , as well as in a document of the St. Martin von (Ober) Wesel monastery from 1245. Soon the place name was slipped to Riescherd . With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops , the place became French, in 1815 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . After the First World War temporarily occupied by the French , the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 .
Ecclesiastically, the place belonged to the current Schönenberg (Sconenberg) desert between Riegenroth and Kisselbach, for which a noble von Schönburg from Schönburg near Oberwesel had donated a chapel, and with this to Boppard . Even in 1275, when this chapel was elevated to a parish church, the place still belonged to the deanery of Boppard. When there was a separate church in Kisselbach, it was temporarily used by both denominations after the Reformation (1557). Later, in the religious declaration of 1707, the Protestants were to be awarded the church in Kisselbach, which was "this side of the Simmerbach" in the Protestant Palatinate region.
But there were only a few houses there. The Catholic Kurtrier Kisselbacher therefore contested the church with them. It was not until 1787 that a Protestant church was built in Riegenroth. The parish of Riegenroth with Kisselbach, Steinbach and Laudert has existed since then. Until 1999 she was connected to the parish of Pleizenhausen, to which Bergenhausen and Ray Various also belong in addition to the main town. The pastor's house was in Pleizenhausen. After 1999, Riegenroth was connected to the parish of Horn -Laubach-Bubach and belongs to the Evangelical Church District Simmern-Trarbach . There are only a few Catholics in town.

coat of arms
Blazon : "In black between two crossing golden (yellow) palm fronds, a red armored and tongued, two-tailed golden (yellow) lion."
Foundation of the coat of arms: At the beginning of the 15th century, the village and court of Riegenroth were sold by the knights of Schönberg auf Wesel to the Count Palatine near the Rhine. The coat of arms is taken unchanged from the court seal of 1720. The lion indicates the sovereigns, the dukes of Pfalz-Simmern and the electors of the Palatinate . The importance of the palm fronds is not known. |
Transport and infrastructure
The federal autobahn 61 can be reached via the Laudert exit in 5 km, the Rhine via the Rheingoldstraße Simmern –Oberwesel from Kisselbach in 15 km. In the towns of Kastellaun , which is not much further away , on the B 327 , the Hunsrückhöhenstrasse , and in Simmern, through which the B 50 runs, there are outdoor and indoor swimming pools as well as an adequate shopping and entertainment infrastructure.
The village is still characterized by agriculture today, albeit mainly as a sideline. But it is also a great place to relax. An organic farm with a farm shop is located in Riegenroth in the Sehnenmühle near Steinbach. This and two used car dealers, the goldsmith, the engineering company and a company that sells Mediterranean plants are of national importance. A lawyer has also settled here.
