history
Coin and vessel finds document a Celtic settlement of the castle head, which also shows traces of Roman settlement, and the remains of a Roman temple and two tombs were excavated. Mastershausen was first mentioned in 1056 as Malestreshusen , the church in 1220. Since 1316 Mastershausen belonged to the Baldeneck office of the Electorate of Trier together with 15 neighboring towns . In 1325 Balduinseck Castle was built as the official residence. The castle ruins are still one of the sights today. Some half-timbered buildings have also been preserved. With the occupation of the Left Bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops , the place became French and from 1798 to 1814 belonged to the canton of Zell in the Rhine-Moselle department . In 1815 the region and thus Mastershausen were assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1946 the place has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate . Until 1970 the place belonged to the Office Blankenrath but was assigned to the Rhein-Hunsrück-Kreis under the 8th Administrative Simplification Act of July 18, 1970 with effect from November 7, 1970 and has since been part of the Kastellaun community . The local administration is also located in Kastellaun .

coat of arms
The three-part coat of arms shows the red Trier cross on the right, the black cross of the Cologne Cathedral monastery on the left and a golden crown in a black field, reminiscent of Queen Richeza , who appears in the first mention of the place.
Gallows tower
In 2009, a 12-meter-high observation tower was built on the 465 m high gallows southwest of Mastershausen . It corresponds to the replica of a Roman watchtower, as the Roman road from Kirn to Treis ran nearby . It offers a view in predominantly northerly directions of Mastershausen and the surrounding area and, on clear days, to the Eifel . The name of the tower is based on a gallows that was located near the site. In 1921, when a sports field was laid out, remnants such as skeletons, foundations and two oak stumps that supported the crossbeam of the gallows were found at this point.
