Grenderich is a municipality in the Cochem-Zell district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Zell (Mosel) . The place is not to be confused with the submerged Grenderich on the Gusenburger district.
geography
The municipality Grenderich is located on a to Mosel abdachenden Riedel of northern Mosel Hunsrück at a height of 420 m around 5 km from the Moselle. It is connected there with the state road L 98 to Senheim or the L 199 through Mühlental to Merl (Zell). Parallel to the L 98, the place can also be hiked on a section of the Keltenweg Nahe-Mosel .
The Vogthof and Zirweshof residential areas also belong to Grenderich .
history
In 1238 Grenderich was first mentioned in a document. Until 1780 the place belonged to the bailiwick of Senheim in the " Dreiherrischen Territory ". As in the Beltheim court , Kurtrier , Sponheim and Braunshorn (later Winneburg and Metternich) shared sovereignty. From 1794 Grenderich was under French rule and belonged to the canton of Zell from 1798 to 1814 . In 1815 the region and with it the place Grenderich was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna .
The foundation stone for the Grenderich church was laid in 1870. The new building was completed in 1872 according to plans by the district architect Schmitt from Cochem .
Since 1946 Grenderich has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate . By the 8th Administrative Simplification Act of July 18, 1970 with effect from November 7, 1970, the municipality of Grenderich was assigned to the Verbandsgemeinde Zell (Mosel) after the dissolution of the Verbandsgemeinde Senheim .
At the same time as the Pydna (missile base) was built in the 1980s, a MIM-104 Patriot anti-aircraft missile position was built in the district near Grenderich . This position was given up in 1990 and the unit was relocated to the Middle East for use in the Iraq war .

Grenderich is connected to the regional traffic via the federal highway 421 located about five kilometers to the south . The nearest train station is Bullay on the Moselle route , about eleven kilometers to the west. The nearest airport is Frankfurt-Hahn , which can be reached in around 25 km via the B 421 to Kappel and the Hunsrückhöhenstrasse .
