geography

Weiler is located in the Vordereifel at 390  m above sea level. NHN . Weiler is located 14 km west of Cochem on the Moselle and the Weilerbach, a tributary of the Ellerbach, a tributary of the Moselle , on a sloping mountain ridge.

history

Weiler is a foundation of the 7th / 8th Century. The first documentary mention comes from the year 1017. The place was probably given to Kurtrier in 1294 , but the high jurisdiction was disputed for centuries between the City Court of Cochem and the High Court of Lutzerath. The village was burned down during the Thirty Years War . With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops , the rule of Kurtrier ended. In 1815 the place was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Weiler has been part of the then new state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 .

  • Bernhard Stein was Professor of Biblical Studies and Bishop of Trier from 1967–1980 . He was the eighth of eleven children of the village school teacher Nikolaus Stein and his wife Maria Eva Stein nee. Keßler born in Weiler. No members of the Stein family now live in Weiler.
