Müden (Mosel) ( dialect : Miere ) is a municipality on the Moselle in the district of Cochem-Zell in Rhineland-Palatinate . It has been a member of the Cochem community since July 1, 2014 .

geography

Müden lies within the wine landscape on the sunny side of the Moselle valley. It is limited in the north by the Eifel and in the south by the Moselle and the Hunsrück . The wine, the Moselle, which has become a major shipping route, and the proximity to the medieval Eltz Castle give the place a special character. Müden also includes the Müdenerberg district with a sports field, green estate area and a chapel.

Neighboring communities are Treis-Karden in the west, Wierschem in the north, Moselkern and Burgen in the east and Lütz in the south.

history

A Roman settlement ( Modinum ) of Celtic origin is documented by numerous finds. The place was first mentioned in a document around the year 585. With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops , the centuries-long rule of Kurtrier ended . Under French administration, Müden belonged to the canton of Münstermaifeld from 1798 to 1814 . In 1815 the place was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . After the US invasion of Müden at the end of World War II, it was part of the French occupation zone. Since 1946 the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate .
