Werner Langen
Werner Langen (born November 27, 1949 in Müden (Mosel) ) was a member of the CDU's European Parliament for Rhineland-Palatinate from 1994 to 2019 and a member of the board of the European People's Party . From 2006 to January 2012 he was chairman of the CDU / CSU group in the European Parliament .

Werner Langen was born on November 27, 1949 in Müden on the Moselle. After graduating from high school in 1969, he served as a reserve lieutenant until 1971 . He then studied economics in Bonn and Cologne. He completed his studies in 1975 with a degree in economics. Two years later he did his doctorate in this field. At the same time he was project manager at the Institute for SME Research in Bonn from 1975 to 1978.
Political career
Werner Langen's political career began when he joined the CDU in 1970. From 1973 onwards he held various political offices. So he rose from the local chairman to the district chairman to the state chairman. At the same time he was a member of the Müden municipal council and the Cochem-Zeller district council for 15 years . From 1983 to 1994 he was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament , seven years of which he was deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group. In 1990 and 1991 he was Minister for Agriculture, Viticulture and Forests in the Wagner cabinet in Mainz, as well as chairman of the Federal Council's agricultural committee and a member of the CDU federal executive committee. Werner Langen is also a member of the SME Association (MIT) and the Association for Local Politics (KPV). He was elected to the European Parliament for the first time in 1994, and one more time in 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014. Werner Langen is also a member of the Europa-Union Deutschland . He did not run for the 2019 European elections .
Private life
Werner Langen has been widowed since 1992. He has two children. Since 1994 he has been in a relationship with Gaby Meurer, who is also widowed and has three children. Werner Langen is a member of local associations, the Eifelverein, the wine brotherhood, the “Pollichia” environmental organization, the Rhenish Association for the Preservation of Monuments and Environmental Protection, the sponsorship group of the University of Koblenz , the DRK and other organizations. He is one of the founding members of the German European Security Association founded in 2006 .
