Europa-Union parliamentary group in the European Parliament

The Europa-Union Parliamentary Group in the European Parliament (EU PG EP) consists of the German members of the European Parliament who are also members of the Europa-Union Germany .

history

The group was founded in 2006. 69 of the 96 German MEPs are members of the European Union. The aim of the parliamentary group is to bring MEPs closer to the German population, to increase the interest of German society in Europe and the European elections and, moreover, to make the role and tasks of the European Parliament and its importance understandable. The work of the parliamentary group takes the form of events and political initiatives. In 2010, the group organized a joint, non-partisan evaluation of the new possibilities for the German Bundestag to participate in the framework of the Lisbon Treaty, together with the Europa-Union parliamentary group of the German Bundestag .

Board

In the 9th legislative period (2019-2024) of the European Parliament , 53 out of 96 MPs from Germany are currently members of the parliamentary group. A new board has not yet been formed.

Jan Philipp Albrecht (Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen) was chairman of the group from April 2015 until the end of the 2019 legislature . Deputies were Markus Ferber (CSU), Arne Lietz (SPD), Michael Theurer (FDP) and Joachim Zeller (CDU).
