Michael Gahler
Michael Gahler (born April 22, 1960 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a member of the CDU for Hesse in the European People's Party and vice-president of the European Movement Germany network .
Life and education
Michael Gahler grew up in the Frankfurt district of Zeilsheim and attended the Friedrich-Dessauer-Gymnasium in Höchst until he graduated in 1978 . From 1979 to 1980 he served as a contract soldier in the German Armed Forces in Koblenz. In 1981 he began studying law at the University of Mainz , which he completed in 1987 with the first state examination in law. From 1982 to 1983 he studied at the University of Dijon . After his legal clerkship in Frankfurt, Hochheim and Brussels , he passed the second state examination in 1990.
From 1990 to 1991 he attended the diplomatic school of the Foreign Office as an attaché and in 1991 passed the career examination for the higher foreign service. From 1991 to 1993 he was a consultant for international environmental policy in the Foreign Office , from 1993 to 1995 a consultant in the international office of the CDU and from 1995 to 1999 country officer for the Baltic and Nordic countries and the Baltic Sea Council in the Foreign Office.

Gahler has been a member of the CDU since 1981. He held various board positions there. From 1994 to 2000 he was deputy chairman of the CDU Main-Taunus . He has been involved in the Junge Union since 1978, where he was city, district and district chairman from 1985 to 1993. From 1990 to 1996 he was a member of the International Commission of the JU Germany. Since 1995 Gahler has been a delegate to the EPP Congress. In 2010 he was nominated by the CDU and elected Vice President of the European Movement Germany network.
Michael Gahler took on a number of mandates in local politics. From 1986 to 1989 he was a city councilor in Hattersheim am Main , from 1989 to 2001 a member of the district council in the Main-Taunus district and from 1993 to 1997 a member of the regional planning assembly at the Darmstadt regional council.
European Parliament
Michael Gahler has been a member of the European Parliament since 1999 . There are his current tasks and responsibilities (since the 2009 election):
- Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Subcommittee on Security and Defense
- Security spokesman for the EPP Group
- Deputy member of the Transport Committee
- Chairman of the Delegation for Relations with the Pan-African Parliament
- Member of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly
- Member of the Bureau of the EPP Group

Gahler is also a member of the Kangaroo Group , a think tank and lobby organization based in Brussels.
