Petra Kammerevert [ ˌpeːtra ʹkamɐʔeːvɐt ] (born June 1, 1966 in Duisburg ) is a German politician ( SPD ). She has been a member of the European Parliament since 2009 and a member of the Progressive Alliance of Social Democrats in the European Parliament . From January 23, 2017 to June 30, 2019 she was the Chair of the Committee on Culture and Education .

Life, studies and work

After graduating from high school in 1985 at the Städtisches Lessing-Gymnasium in Düsseldorf , Kammerevert studied sociology and political science at the University of Duisburg , from which she graduated as a social scientist. From 1992 to 2002 she worked as a research assistant for a member of the European Parliament, first in Brussels for one and a half years and then in Düsseldorf. From 2002 to 2009 she was a consultant in the ARD program directorate and headed the office of the ARD program advisory board.

Kammerevert lives in Düsseldorf and is married.

Political career

Kammerevert joined the SPD in 1984 and initially became increasingly involved as a member of the board of the Jusos in the Niederrhein district (1987–1990). In 1992 Kammerevert took over the chairmanship of Jusos Düsseldorf, which she held until 1995. She has been a member of the sub-district executive committee of the SPD Düsseldorf since 1997. From 1999 to 2009 she was a member of the City Council of Düsseldorf. From 2004 to 2012 she was also a member of the board of the SPD Region Niederrhein, since 2012 she has been a member of the state board of the SPD NRW . She is also a member of the presidium of the media commission of the SPD party executive.

Member of the European Parliament

In the 2009 European elections she was elected to the European Parliament for the first time as a SPD member . In the European elections in 2014 and 2019 , she made it again. Your regional support area includes the cities of Düsseldorf, Krefeld, Mönchengladbach, Remscheid, Solingen, Wuppertal, Leverkusen, Cologne, Bonn, the Rhine district of Neuss, the district of Mettmann, the Rhein-Sieg district, the Rheinisch-Bergischer district and the Oberbergischer district .

Her duties and responsibilities in the European Parliament include membership of the Committee on Culture and Education , which she chaired between 2017 and 2019. She is also a member of the delegation for the Parliamentary Stabilization and Association Committee EU-Montenegro and a deputy member of the Committee for Internal Market and Consumer Protection .

Kammerevert is a member of the Europa-Union parliamentary group in the European Parliament .

She is also a fan and member of Fortuna Düsseldorf and the Düsseldorfer EG .

Volunteering

Kammerevert has been a member of the WDR Broadcasting Council since December 2009 and has been chairwoman of the program committee there since October 2010. She is also a member of the media commission of the party executive of the Federal SPD and is active there in the presidium.
