Renate Thekla Walburga Maria Sommer (born September 10, 1958 in Bochum ) was a member of the CDU for North Rhine-Westphalia in the European People's Party from 1999 to 2019 .

education and profession

Sommer studied until 1984 Agricultural Sciences and obtained in 1996 at the University of Bonn a Dr. agr. in the World Food Economy Department.

In December 2009, Sommer came under criticism from some consumer advocates when she spoke out against mandatory color labeling of foodstuffs using the traffic light model. Instead, Sommer advocated clear labeling of the calorie content on the front of the packaging and a reference value of 100 g / ml for better comparability of products.
