Markus Pieper (politician)
Markus Pieper (born May 15, 1963 in Hameln ) is a German politician . He has been a member of the CDU's European Parliament for North Rhine-Westphalia since 2004 and represents the CDU district association of Münsterland . In the European Parliament he is the parliamentary managing director of the CDU / CSU group and its SME spokesman . In terms of content, he focuses on energy and climate policy in the Committee for Industry, Research and Energy .
biography
Markus Pieper studied geography , economics and spatial planning at the universities of Hanover and Göttingen . As a graduate geographer , he received his doctorate in 1994 on the change in importance of industrial location factors under the later President of the University of Hanover, Ludwig Schätzl , to become a Dr. rer. nat. From 1989 and later, parallel to his dissertation , Pieper worked as a project manager at Troje GmbH corporate and municipal consultancy in Hann. Münden . European Parliament
Pieper has been parliamentary managing director of the CDU / CSU group since 2017 and a member of the board of the EPP parliamentary group since 2019. Markus Pieper takes pro-European positions and sees the EU as a political success story.

As a member of parliament, Markus Pieper speaks out in favor of reducing bureaucracy, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). He campaigned for exceptions to emissions trading and waste legislation as well as a longer transition period for companies that fell out of the SME definition.

In the area of environmental policy, Markus Pieper urges an appropriate balance between economic and environmental interests.

Private life
Markus Pieper is married and has three children with his wife Sabine Lockstedt. The family lives in Lotte . He is an Evangelical Lutheran denomination and a member of local associations, in the regional Hegering as well as in the Europa-Union Steinfurt, the Münsterland eV [4] and is co-opted on the supervisory board of Sportfreunde Lotte .
