Political positions

Modernizing education in the EU

Sabine Verheyen is of the opinion that in an increasingly globalized and digitized world, education is the key to success. Innovative learning and teaching methods are required to continue to ensure high quality education. It is important that the opportunities offered by digitization and the establishment of common educational platforms for modern education, especially in the area of distance learning, are also used. At the same time, age-appropriate ICT ( information and communication technology ) and media curricula should be drawn up, which provide for learning how to use media responsibly and think critically.

Erasmus +

In Verheyen's view, it is important that young people get to know Europe and, based on this, develop their own ideas and concepts for shaping the EU further. However, this requires that young people have the opportunity to discover the advantages and diversity of Europe for themselves. The Erasmus + program is therefore one of the most important funding programs for Verheyen.

Tihange

Together with other MEPs from the Euregio, Verheyen called on the Commission to find a common European solution with regard to the Tihange nuclear power plant. The security situation of the Tihange power plant, which is classified as questionable, affects people in the Euregio across national borders. For this reason, the Commission must advocate binding European safety standards for nuclear power plants and the establishment of a European nuclear supervisory authority that controls the national supervisory authorities and operators.

Audiovisual Media Services Directive

In 2016, Verheyen took on co-reporting on the amendment to the Audiovisual Media Services Directive on the Culture and Media Committee. During the negotiations, Verheyen advocated a fair harmonization of the rules for linear and non-linear media, for example in advertising and the protection of minors. The amendment should come into force in 2019.

Local political spokeswoman for the CDU / CSU group

Verheyen advocates “a strong, citizen-friendly and community-friendly Europe.” She is of the opinion that a strong EU Parliament and an intensive exchange with local authorities are essential for the feasibility and thus the effectiveness of European legislation.

Copyright in the digital single market

Sabine Verheyen voted in favor of the guideline because it "enables more fairness on the Internet and, in particular, holds the recklessly capitalizing corporations responsible".
