Ismail Ertug (born December 5, 1975 in Amberg ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

Ismail Ertug was born in Amberg in 1975, three years after his parents had left their Turkish homeland. After completing his apprenticeship as an industrial clerk, Ertug worked as a corporate customer advisor for AOK Amberg, where he completed a degree in health insurance business administration while working . After completing his studies, he worked in the field of strategic sales consulting at the AOK headquarters in Bavaria in Nuremberg .

Ertug is married and has two daughters.

Political career

Accession to the SPD and Jusos (1999-2004)

Ertug's political career began when he joined the SPD and the Jusos in 1999. From 2004 to 2009 and again since 2014 he has been a member of the Amberg city council. In addition, Ertug is an assessor in the state board of the BayernSPD .

Member of the European Parliament (since 2009)

7th period (2009-2014)

Ertug has been a member of the European Parliament for the Upper Palatinate and Lower Bavaria since July 2009 . In his first period in the European Parliament, Ertug was a member of the Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN) and an alternate member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI). He was also a member of the EU-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee and a deputy member of the delegation for EU-Israel relations. Ertug gained prominence as co-rapporteur of the European Parliament for the regulation on the trans-European transport networks (TEN-T).

8th period (2014-2019)

In his second term in Parliament, Ertug remains a member of the Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN). Since his re-election in July 2014, he has been the coordinator of the European Social Democrats for transport and tourism policy. Ertug is also an alternate member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI). He is also a member of the delegation to the EU-Kazakhstan, EU-Kyrgyzstan, EU-Uzbekistan and EU-Tajikistan parliamentary cooperation committees, as well as for relations with Turkmenistan and Mongolia (DCAS) and an alternate member of the delegation for relations with the countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and in the delegation of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly.

In addition to the legislative work in the committees and the work in the delegations, Ertug is co-chair of the "EP Turkey Forum", an informal association of more than 70 members of the European Parliament from all political groups that promote European-Turkish relations through information events and exchanges want.

From January 2016, Ertug was a member of the Committee of Inquiry into Emission Measurements in the Automotive Industry (EMIS), which presented its conclusions in March 2017. Ertug has been a member of the board of the German group within the parliamentary group since December 2017.

Ertug is a member of the United Service Union ( ver.di ), Greenpeace, Workers' Welfare ( AWO ), Mobifair, Rail Forum Europe, “Living and Learning Together in Europe eV” and the “Colorful Instead of Brown” alliance. He is also the "School Without Racism" sponsor for the Franz-Xaver-von-Schönwerth Realschule Amberg.
