Rainer Wieland (born February 19, 1957 in Stuttgart ) is a German lawyer and politician . He became known to a wider public through his activities as a politician. He has been a member of the European Parliament since 1997 and one of its fourteen Vice-Presidents since 2009. As a MEP of the CDU, he belongs to the parliamentary group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) , which is the largest parliamentary group in the European Parliament in the 8th legislative period. His support area since 1997 includes the Stuttgart region , with the state capital , and the five surrounding districts of Ludwigsburg , Esslingen , Böblingen , Rems-Murr-Kreis and Göppingen , and since 2004 also the area of ​​the city and district of Heilbronn . He studied law in Tübingen and Heidelberg and completed his legal clerkship in Stuttgart. In the Junge Union Gerlingen he was local chairman from 1975 to 1980. Wieland was chairman of the JU district association in Ludwigsburg from 1981 to 1983. In May 2019, Rainer Wieland was re-elected from first place on the CDU state list Baden-Württemberg to the European Parliament, where he was confirmed as Vice President.
