Dieter Ziegler (politician)

Dieter Ziegler (born May 2, 1937 in Maikammer ; † March 5, 2019 ) was a German winemaker and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

Ziegler was the son of a winemaker. After attending secondary school, he completed an apprenticeship as a winemaker, which he completed in 1956 at the viticulture school with the assistant test. He then worked at his father's winery, passed his master winemaking exam in 1960 and took over the management of his father's business in 1961. He later handed over management of the company to his son Michael. From 1973 to 1985 he was Vice President of the Palatinate Viticulture Association.

Dieter Ziegler was a member of the Association of Catholic Entrepreneurs (BKU) . The honorary citizen of Maikammer died on March 5, 2019 at the age of 81.

Political party

Ziegler had been a member of the CDU since 1960. In 1981 he was elected chairman of the CDU district association for the southern Weinstrasse district.

MP

Ziegler had been a council member of the Maikammer community since 1964 . He was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament from May 29, 1967, when he replaced the deceased Member of Parliament Emil Geörger , until his resignation on August 14, 1981.

Public offices

Ziegler has been mayor of the Maikammer community since 1974. After Otto Meyer's resignation , he was appointed Minister for Agriculture, Viticulture and Forests on May 23, 1985 in the government of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate led by Prime Minister Bernhard Vogel . During his tenure, he had to deal with the " glycol wine scandal " that became known in July 1985 . As a result, he fired officials from the ministry in order to avoid further damage to the wine industry. However, a change to the wine law initiated by him could not be achieved.

Ziegler was also a member of the following cabinet headed by Prime Minister Carl-Ludwig Wagner . In the course of a cabinet reshuffle, he resigned from the government on June 21, 1990 and was replaced as Minister of Agriculture by Werner Langen .
