Hendrik Hering (born April 13, 1964 in Hachenburg ) is a German politician ( SPD ), lawyer and since May 2016 President of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament .

Life and work

Hendrik Hering was born in Hachenburg in the Westerwald . After graduating from high school in 1983 at the private grammar school of the Cistercian Abbey of Marienstatt , he studied law at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . Between his first and second state exams, he completed his community service in the care for the severely disabled in Hachenburg. Hering practiced as an independent lawyer in Hachenburg from 1992 to 2001 .

Hendrik Hering still lives in Hachenburg today. He is Roman Catholic, married and has three children.

Political party

Hendrik Hering joined the SPD in 1982 and gained his first political experience in Hachenburg local politics. He has been a member of the Westerwald district council since 1989. Hering was elected chairman of the SPD district association in Westerwald in 1992 and chairman of the SPD district association of Rhineland in 2002. He still holds these offices today. In 2004 he was elected deputy chairman of the SPD regional association Rhineland-Palatinate.

MP

Hendrik Hering sat for the SPD from 1996 to 2001 and again from 2006 in the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament. In the state elections in 2011 he received a direct mandate from constituency 5 Bad Marienberg (Westerwald) / Westerburg . From May 18, 2011 to November 4, 2014 he was parliamentary group chairman in Mainz.

Public offices

Hendrik Hering was the mayor of Hachenburg from 1989 to 2001. During his work as mayor, he also practiced as a freelance lawyer in Hachenburg. From 2001 to 2005 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Forests and then until 2006 in the Ministry of the Interior and Sport in the Beck III cabinet . As a minister in the Beck IV cabinet from May 18, 2006 to May 18, 2011 , Hering was responsible for the departments of economy, transport, agriculture and viticulture in Rhineland-Palatinate. Hering was unanimously elected President of the 17th State Parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate on May 18, 2016 .

Other engagement

Hendrik Hering is a member of the board of the Freundeskreis Landschaftsmuseum Westerwald , on the board of the promotional group DRK Klinikum Westerwald and member of ver.di, Amnesty International and the Federation for Environment and Nature Conservation Germany (BUND). He is also a member of the SWR Broadcasting Council and chairman of the board of the Europa-Haus Marienberg . In 2011 he was a founding member and supporter of the "Friends of the Nürburgring" association.
