Eugene Hertel

Eugen Hertel (born January 30, 1893 in Kaiserslautern ; † August 5, 1973 there ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending school, Hertel completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter. He went on a hike until 1915, passed his master craftsman's examination in 1919 and then worked as a carpenter and carpenter. From 1925 to 1933 he worked as the head of the Kaiserslautern SPD bookstore. After the seizure of power by the Nazis, he was repeatedly arrested and has among others, two years of professional ban. Since 1945 he worked as a self-employed master carpenter.

Political party

In 1913 Hertel joined the SPD. From 1931 he also worked as an editor for a social democratic newspaper.

MP

Hertel was a council member of the city of Kaiserslautern. In 1946/47 he belonged to the Advisory State Assembly of Rhineland-Palatinate and was then a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Parliament until 1959 . From 1947 to 1959 he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. In 1949 and 1954, the Landtag elected a member of the Federal Assembly , which elected Theodor Heuss as Federal President .
