Albrecht Martin (born July 9, 1927 in Bad Kreuznach ; † July 15, 2014 ibid) was a German educator and politician for the CDU in Rhineland-Palatinate .

Life and work

After attending secondary school and grammar school in Bad Kreuznach, Martin was drafted into the Wehrmacht and took part in World War II as a soldier . He graduated from high school in 1946 and then began studying theology, history and German at the University of Mainz , which ended in 1954 with the second state examination for teaching. He then entered the school service, worked as a teacher at various high schools and was finally promoted to director of studies. From 1960 to 1972 he acted as a lecturer for study and professional issues of faculty theologians at the University of Mainz. On December 11th, 2009 an Albrecht-Martin-Symposium took place in Bad Kreuznach , at which Roman Herzog , Wolfgang Reeder and Julia Klöckner were guests.

Political party

Martin joined the CDU and was deputy state chairman of the Rhineland-Palatinate Christian Democrats from 1982 to 1988. From 1984 to 1990 he was federal chairman of the Evangelical Working Group of the CDU / CSU .

MP

Martin was from 1956 to 1963 council member of the city ​​of Oppenheim and from 1964 to 1986 council member of the city of Bad Kreuznach. He was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament from 1967 to 1991. From May 16, 1974 to May 21, 1985 he was President of the State Parliament.

Public offices

In the course of a cabinet reshuffle on May 23, 1985, Martin was appointed Minister for Federal Affairs to the government of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate led by Prime Minister Bernhard Vogel and since 1988 has also been a member of the subsequent government led by Prime Minister Carl-Ludwig Wagner . On November 2, 1989, he resigned from the state government.
