John Bonello

John Bonello (born May 10, 1958 ) is a former Maltese football goalkeeper .

Bonello played six games for SC Herford in the 2nd Bundesliga North in the 1980/81 season . On the 32nd and from the 34th to the 39th matchday he represented the goalkeeper Manfred Recknagel . With four defeats and two draws there was no victory and Bonello conceded 14 goals. After this series of games, the 1.90 meter tall Bonello was not used again in a German professional league. At the end of the season, Herford was in 16th place in the table.

In Malta, Bonello played for Ħamrun Spartans and the Hibernians Paola .

Bonello also played for the Maltese national football team in the 1980s . On December 21, 1983, he conceded 12 goals in a qualifying game for the 1984 European Football Championship against the Spanish national team . In 2006 the Amstel brewery put out a commercial for this event in which Bonello played himself in a parodying way.
