Recknagel made his debut on March 1, 1975 in the 0-1 defeat of the Münsteraner at HSV Barmbek-Uhlenhorst . With the challenges she succeeded in direct promotion back to the 2nd Bundesliga. In the 1980/81 season Recknagel was then a regular goalkeeper, but could not prevent the Herford team from missing the qualification for the single-track 2nd Bundesliga at the end of the season. Recknagel played 64 second division games, 20 for Münster and 44 for Herford. There are also 26 regional league games for Münster. He didn't score any goals.
