Klotten (official spelling until December 6, 1935: Clotten ) is a municipality in the Cochem-Zell district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Cochem community .
geography
The wine village of Klotten is located on the Moselle and is surrounded by steep slate slopes. Vineyards are Coraidelstein Castle, Brauneberg and Rosenberg.
history
The place is mentioned in a document as early as 698. The Polish queen Richeza , daughter of Count Palatine Ezzo and granddaughter of Emperor Otto II , probably stayed in Klotten with her three children from 1040 to 1049. In Klotten she had a chapel (Nikolauskirche) and a residential tower built, which was connected to a bridge to the chapel. After her death on March 21, 1063, she bequeathed all of her property to the Benedictine abbey of Brauweiler near Cologne. Your sarcophagus is now in Cologne Cathedral, to the left behind the high altar, the Shrine of the Three Kings.
The rule of Kurtrier ended with the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794/96 by French revolutionary troops . Until 1814, Klotten belonged to the Mairie Pommern in the canton of Cochem . In 1815 the region was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1946 the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
