Lieg is a municipality in the Cochem-Zell district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Cochem community .

geography

The village lies on a ridge between the valleys of the Lützbach and the Dünnbach on the northern edge of the Hunsrück , about eight kilometers from the Moselle . The road 108, which connects the Moselle (Treis-Karden) with the Vorderhunsrück ( Kastellaun ), goes through the village . To Lie also belongs abode House penny.

history

The area around Lieg has been inhabited since the Neolithic Age, as finds of stone axes show. Further finds (barrows) from the Iron Age (750–50 BC) testify to further settlement, probably by the Celtic tribe of the Treveri . About 50 BC Christ conquered the area. Finds from this period also indicate continuous settlement.

A document from 1106 mentions the kidnapping of a young nun by knight Embrico from Mayschoss an der Ahr in order to marry her. The parents then disinherited their daughter, who was only allowed to keep the farm in Lieg. Later, Lieg belonged to the so-called three-man Beltheim court . Since 1366, Kurtrier , Sponheim and Braunshorn- Winneburg have divided rulership. This ended with the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine by French revolutionary troops in 1794 . In 1815 the place was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1946 the place has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

coat of arms

Coat of arms of Lieg
Blazon : “Shield quartered. Field 1: in green a silver urn with three golden ears, field 2: in silver a blue lily, field 3: in gold a black wing, field 4: in black a golden goblet. "
Justification for the coat of arms: The urn refers to excavations found in 1910. A double-handled glaze urn from the last third of the first century AD was uncovered in the “Kriegwald” district. The color green and the golden ears of wheat indicate the agriculture still practiced in the village today. The blue lily is the symbol of the Karden Collegiate Foundation ; an early affiliation is proven before the year 1475. The Maria Engelport monastery had a farm and large estates in Lieg from 1275 until the auction in 1813. A wing was added to the coat of arms as a symbol of the Maria Engelport monastery. The chalice is the attribute of St. Goar , he has been documented as patron saint and church patron since 1656.

Culture and sights

  • The Wendelinus Chapel from 1908 between Lieg and Lahr with relics of Saint Wendelin attracts believers from the near and far on the second Sunday in September.

On March 8, 2008, Lieg won the "SWR 4 Town Musicians" competition. With 40 percent in the TED , they have left their competitors from Pantenburg (36%) and Ediger-Eller (24%) behind and can now call themselves “SWR 4 Stadtmusikanten”, the most musical community in Rhineland-Palatinate. The small town has two choirs, and the Hunsrück musicians have around 30 active musicians and train around 10 more.
