Location of the local community Bremm in the district of Cochem-Zell | ||
Bremm is a municipality in the Cochem-Zell district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Cochem community .
Geographical location
Bremm lies on a bend in the Moselle between Trier and Koblenz and is surrounded by the vineyards of the Calmont , the steepest vineyard in Europe with a height of 378 meters and a slope of approx. 65 degrees. This extends along the Moselle from Ediger-Eller to Bremm and is part of the Moselle wine-growing region . The approximately 100 hectares of vineyards in the Bremm district are divided into the individual layers of Calmont, Abbey Stuben Abbey, Frauenberg, Schlemmertröpfchen and Laurentiusberg. The location of Bremm gave its name to the Bremm pumped storage plant, which was planned in the immediate vicinity from the end of the 1960s .
history
The place was already settled in Celtic and Roman times. The oldest documented mention of the place is from the year 1051, when Richeza , granddaughter of Emperor Otto II , donated goods to the Brauweiler monastery in Brembe . A church in Bremm was first mentioned in 1097. The present church in Bremm was built towards the end of the 15th century and was rebuilt and enlarged in 1895. Like previous churches in the parish, it is dedicated to St. Lawrence.
The most important landlord until 1802 was the Augustinian monastery Springiersbach with the ladies' monastery in Stuben . It housed the Limburg storage library . The occupation by French revolutionary troops had already taken place in 1794 , until 1814 Bremm belonged to Mairie Eller in the canton of Cochem . In 1815 the place was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . The 11th century church was rebuilt and enlarged in 1895. Bremm has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946. In 2002 Bremm won the title “Most beautiful village in Rhineland-Palatinate” in the competition “ Our village has a future ”.
The Greek double cross stands for the house symbol of the monastery, which was adopted from a famous cross reliquary. The grape symbolizes the economic structure of the community and the pointed arched windows stand for the former Augustinian nunnery.
