Canton of Cochem
The canton of Cochem (French: Canton de Cochem ) was one of twelve administrative units into which the arrondissement of Koblenz in the Rhine-Mosel department was divided. The Canton was in the years 1798 to 1814 of the French Republic (1798-1804) and the Napoleonic Empire (1804-1814).
Before the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in the First Coalition War , the administrative district of the canton of Cochem belonged mainly to the Electorate of Trier . In statistics from 1808, school teachers are listed by name in almost all municipalities.
In 1814 the Rhine-Moselle department and with it the canton of Cochem became part of the Generalgouvernements Mittelrhein and came to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815 due to the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna . Under the Prussian administration, the canton of Cochem was incorporated into the newly formed district of Cochem in the Koblenz administrative district in 1816 . Aldegund and Alf came to the Zell district at the same time .
Administrative division
The canton of Cochem was divided into 19 municipalities with 35 localities, which were administered by three Mairies . In 1808 a total of 10,259 inhabitants lived in the canton.

Brachtendorf community
The municipality of Brachtendorf also belonged to the canton of Cochem, but was assigned to the Mairie Kaisersesch on the lower administrative level , which otherwise belonged to the canton of Kaisersesch .
