The Arrondissement de Bonn ( German  Arrondissement Bonn ) was a French administrative unit in the Rhine-Moselle department . The arrondissement existed from 1798 to 1814.

Administrative history

After French revolutionary troops had conquered the areas on the left bank of the Rhine in October 1794 , they began to introduce the French administrative structures in 1798 by dividing the regions on the left bank of the Rhine into departments . The arrondissements were headed by a sub-prefect .

On June 6, 1802, the Mayor of Bonn, Johann Joseph Eichhoff , took up the post of sub-prefect of the Bonn arrondissement . Napoleon Bonaparte withdrew all offices from Eichhoff during a visit to Bonn and appointed Peter Joseph Maria Boosfeld (* 1750 in Bonn, † 1819) as sub-prefect on September 16, 1804. He was sub-prefect of the arrondissement for 10 years.

On the basis of the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna (1815), the Rhine-Moselle department and with it the area of the Bonn arrondissement were added to the Kingdom of Prussia . The northern parts of the area became part of the Cologne district , the southern parts of the Koblenz district . In 1822 both administrative districts became part of the Prussian Rhine Province . Since 1946 the area of the arrondissement has been part of the federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate .
