Canton of Mayen

The canton Mayen (French: Canton de Mayen ) was one of twelve administrative units into which the arrondissement Koblenz in the Rhine-Moselle department was divided.

history

The Canton was in the years 1798 to 1814 part of the First French Republic (1799-1804) and the First French Empire (1804-1814).

Before the annexation of the left bank of the Rhine in the First Coalition War , the administrative district of the Canton Mayen belonged mainly to the Mayen office in the Electorate of Trier . In statistics from 1808, school teachers are listed by name in all municipalities.

The canton president was Franz Peter Hartung, and the judge of the peace was Hermann Joseph Grieß.
