Canton of Zell

The canton of Zell (French: Canton de Zell ) was one of twelve administrative units into which the arrondissement of Koblenz in the Rhine-Moselle department was divided. The Canton was in the years 1798 to 1814 part of the First French Republic (1798-1804) and the First French Empire (1804-1814).

Before the annexation of the left bank of the Rhine in the First Coalition War , the administrative district of the canton of Zell belonged mainly to the Electorate of Trier and to the " tri-lordship area on the Hunsrück ". The canton of Zell was divided into 22 municipalities with 43 localities, which were administered by three Mairies . In 1808 a total of 9,478 inhabitants lived in the canton.
