history
The first written mention comes from 1330 under the name Soysbergh . The place was until 1781 "tri-gentry territory". As in the Beltheim court , Kurtrier , Sponheim and Braunshorn (later Winneburg and Metternich) shared sovereignty. From 1794 Sosberg was under French rule and from 1798 to 1814 belonged to the canton of Zell in the Rhine-Moselle department . In 1815 the place was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1946 the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate. With the 8th Administrative Simplification Act of July 18, 1970 with effect from November 7, 1970, the municipality of Sosberg became part of the Verbandsgemeinde Zell (Mosel) after the official municipality of Blankenrath was dissolved.

Justification for the coat of arms: The red cross in silver is reminiscent of Kurtrier , the silver horn marks the rule of Beilstein , the silver halberd refers to St. Matthias, the patron saint of the church, the green middle field indicates the agricultural structure of the community, the silver-red chess is the coat of arms of the Hinteren Grafschaft Sponheim . |
