Wirfus is a municipality in the Cochem-Zell district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Cochem community .

geography

Wirfus is located six kilometers southeast of the city of Kaisersesch and a good three kilometers north of the Moselle on a ridge that slopes slowly from west to east to the steep valley of the Pommerbach . The village covers altitudes between a good 325  m above sea level. NHN and just under 350  meters above sea level. NHN . The place was first mentioned in a document in 1056.

Up until the end of the 18th century, Wirfus belonged to Kurtrier as a sovereign and was assigned to the high court of Klotten in the Cochem office. In the Trier fire book from 1563 there were 18 fireplaces (households) in Wirfus, in 1684 there were only 12.

In 1794 French revolutionary troops annexed the Left Bank of the Rhine , from 1798 to 1814 Wirfus belonged to the canton of Cochem in the Koblenz arrondissement of the Rhine-Mosel department . Munizipalräte (Wirfuser community representative in the Mairie Pomerania ) were the citizens of Thernes and Tönnes.

Due to the resolutions at the Congress of Vienna (1815), the region was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia . Under the Prussian administration, the municipality of Wirfus became part of the Pomeranian mayor in the Cochem district , which belonged to the new administrative district of Koblenz and from 1822 to the Rhine province .

The municipality Wirfus has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 , since 1968 it has belonged to the Verbandsgemeinde Cochem-Land (since 2009 Verbandsgemeinde Cochem ) and since 1969 to the district of Cochem-Zell .
