history

The place is in a document of Emperor Heinrich III. first mentioned from the year 1051. From 1476 Kurtrier was the sole sovereign in Gevenich. With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine by French revolutionary troops in 1794, Gevenich came to the canton of Lutzerath as part of the arrondissement of Koblenz with hamlet. In 1815 the place was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Years of emergency around the middle of the 19th century and the associated voluntary or forced emigration of the poorer part of the population, which was associated with it, reduced the population by a third. Since 1946 the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate .
