Leienkaul is an independent local community since June 12, 2004 in the district of Cochem-Zell in Rhineland-Palatinate . Before that, Leienkaul was a district of Laubach . Leienkaul belongs to the Kaisersesch community .

geography

Leienkaul is in the Eastern Eifel . The municipality includes the residential places Martentalerhof, Sester Bach, Weierhof and Kloster Maria Martental .

history

Maria Martental ( Martyldal ) was probably founded around 1141 by the Springiersbach monastery and was soon an important place of pilgrimage. Leienkaul itself was founded by miners in the Laubach district at the end of the 18th century . Around 1900 there were three larger companies, namely "Maria-Schacht", "Colonia-Schacht" and the "Müllenbacher Dachschieferwerk (Härewiss)". Leienkaul has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 . Leienkaul has been an independent municipality since June 2004.

Municipal council

The council in Leienkaul consists of eight council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Culture and sights

The monastery of the Sacred Heart of Jesus priests and the pilgrimage church Maria Martental as well as the listed area "Area Slate Quarrying and Processing Kaulenbachtal " are worth seeing .
