The Commarco GmbH , based in Hamburg , is a German subsidiary of the international advertising group WPP Group with activities in the field of communication and marketing services. The company was founded in 2001 as an independent holding company after the advertising agency Scholz & Friends was founded in 1981 by Jürgen Scholz (creation), Uwe Lang (consulting) and Michael Menzel. In addition to Scholz & Friends , the group also includes the agencies Blumberry, Celsius gkk, Lowe Deutschland, gkk DialogGroup, Deepblue Networks, ResourceReich, UV Interactive Entertainment and United Visions.

history

In 1985 the founders sold the agency to the international network Bates - which in the same year was sold to Saatchi & Saatchi and Cordiant. Scholz retired from the management in 1992.

In 2003, around 40 executives acquired ownership of the company through a management buyout together with the private equity investor Cognetas . The small investors were compensated by a squeeze-out .

On April 19, 2011, Commarco announced that the WPP holding Commarco would take over one hundred percent - after successful approval by antitrust law. Both sides have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

present

In 2019, the group has around 1900 employees at 30 locations with offices in Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf and branches in many major European cities (e.g. Athens, Belgrade, Budapest, Kiev, Madrid, Milan, London, Paris, Prague , Stockholm, Zurich and Basel). Scholz & Friends works with Lowe Worldwide as part of a strategic alliance. Lowe Worldwide represents Scholz & Friends in all international markets in which the agency group is not represented, especially in Asia and North and South America.

Their turnover in 2008 was around 137 million euros (last published figures).
