history
In "Alflona" the Karden monastery owned a farm and associated Fronland and also two thirds of the parish's tithe according to the inventory of goods drawn up around 1100 . The Karden possession in "Alflona" was confirmed in 1178 by Pope Alexander III. The tithe had the pen until the end of the 18th century. In the Pope Eugene III. The document issued for the Echternach Abbey in 1148 mentions, among other things, smaller property at "Alflue" or "Afflue", similarly in 1161.
The parish church, first mentioned around 1100, is listed in the Trier Liber annalium at the beginning of the 13th century ; its parish was subordinate to the collegiate church in Karden. Around 1330 it is mentioned in the Taxa generalis , in 1475 and 1656 in protocols of the Archdeaconate of Karden and of the Land Chapter of Zell. 1592 and in the register 1552, with the patronage of John the Baptist . Until the end of the 18th century, Alflen belonged to the rulers of Kurtrier and was assigned to the Cochem office. Within the consular district Alflen was the eponymous capital of a High Court , which also Büchel (Georg Weiler, Weiler Morsch) and Gillenbeuren as well as for office elm belonging Auderath belonged. Originally the high court Alflen was one of the Pellenz courts , which, according to a wisdom from 1499, had twelve lay judges. The Counts of Virneburg held this as an Electoral Trier fiefdom and granted it as an after-fief to the Counts of Metternich-Winneburg . The counts of Metternich-Winneburg were entitled to civil jurisdiction , the count appointed the mayor and the seven lay judges, the count's official zu Beilstein presided . In the Trier fire book from 1563 there are 50 fireplaces (households) in Alflen, in 1684 there were only 34.
In 1794 French revolutionary troops annexed the Left Bank of the Rhine ; from 1798 to 1814 Alflen belonged to the canton Ulmen in the Bonn arrondissement of the Rhine-Moselle department . The Munizipalrat (Alflener community representative in the Mairie Ulmen ) was the citizen of Henrich in 1808. There was a school teacher in town.
Due to the resolutions at the Congress of Vienna (1815), the region was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia . Under the Prussian administration, the municipality of Alflen became part of the Lutzerath mayor in the Cochem district , which belonged to the new administrative district of Koblenz and from 1822 to the Rhine province .

Attractions
The parish church of St. John the Baptist, with its Gothic style and its unusual ceiling paintings, is one of the most remarkable churches in the area. The substructure Romanesque west tower, upper floors and nave were renewed after 1716, late Gothic choir and sacristy after 1716.
The location of the church, which is surrounded by mighty chestnuts that are more than 300 years old and protected by nature, offers a picturesque picture in every season. You can get this view especially from the Zeip (a fountain) in Schulstrasse, near the school.
Chapel on Kapellenstrasse: a small hall building with a niche relief, supposedly originally from the 16th century, rebuilt in 1921 as a war memorial chapel.
The Felser-Haus , a half-timbered house from 1880, below the church. It survived World War II despite falling victim to a grenade attack. It used to be a shop inside, today it is only used as a residential building.
The Nassenberg juniper heath is a 5.3 hectare nature reserve in the north-eastern part of the Alflens district.
The Alflen local history museum was created on the basis of an exhibition organized by the Cochem-Zell district administration called On de Geman gien (going to the community) , at which old communication options and equipment were shown. It found its place in the attic of the former school and today's kindergarten near the church.
