geography

Brachtendorf is in the Eastern Eifel . The closest basic centers are Kaisersesch , about seven kilometers to the west, and Treis-Karden on the Moselle, about eight kilometers south of the town. The Brohlbach flows through the municipality .

history

The place was first mentioned in 1189 under the name "Brachindorp". "Brathendorf" (1250), "Brattendorf" (1252) and "Brachtdorff" (1592) were later mentioned. Until the end of the 18th century, Brachtendorf belonged to the rulers of Kurtrier and was assigned to the high court of Klotten in the office of Cochem . In the Trier fire book from 1563 there were 28 fireplaces (households) in Brachtendorf, in 1684 there were only nine.

In 1794 French revolutionary troops annexed the Left Bank of the Rhine , from 1798 to 1814 Brachtendorf belonged to the canton of Cochem in the Koblenz arrondissement of the Rhine-Moselle department .
